Teamwork, Compassion, and Understanding: My Eight Days with HYC
HYC Turns 4, group photo with the team

I joined the HYC team as part of my school’s World of Work program for eight days. Given that it was my first time participating in a work experience program, I was mostly clueless about what working with Tzu Chi was going to be like for me. However, through the constant guidance and encouragement from the HYC staff, me and my teammates became very comfortable with Tzu Chi’s work culture and values. These values consist of teamwork, compassion, and understanding.

One of my favourite moments working with Tzu Chi was on my fifth day during the HYC Turns Four celebration. I felt that setting up the equipment for the event allowed me and my teammates to bond and understand the importance of teamwork since most of the equipment was in large quantities and required more than one person to carry. I enjoyed that despite the task being tiring, we still managed to find joy out of it, which I believe is crucial for unity and harmony in a team.

I believe that the skills and values I have obtained can be applied in school as well as my personal life, such that I will be able to develop as a person and influence my peers to do the same. Although I only worked with Tzu Chi for eight days, I sincerely appreciate the care and support the team has shown us, and my teammates and I hope to continue working together with Tzu Chi in the future.
